Fluconazole is a synthetic triazole antifungal agent. It selectively inhibits fungal cytochrome P450 14-alpha demethylase, preventing conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol and causing fungal cell membrane disruption. It treats candidiasis, cryptococcal meningitis, and systemic fungal infections. Its chemical structure features two triazole rings attached to a difluorophenyl ethanol core.
