Fluridone is a systemic aquatic pyridinone herbicide. It inhibits phytoene desaturase (PDS), blocking carotenoid synthesis and exposing plant chlorophyll to photo-oxidative degradation. It controls submersed aquatic invasive plants like hydrilla and Eurasian watermilfoil in lakes and ponds. Its structure consists of a pyridinone core bearing a trifluoromethylphenyl group.
