Introduction to Salinomycin

Salinomycin is a type of anti-bacterial antibiotic that has been widely used for treating infectious diseases in mammals. In general, salinomycin is a monocarboxylic polyether antimicrobial drug with a size of 750 Da and is usually composed of a tricyclic spiroketal ring and a special six-membered ring. Moreover, previous studies have demonstrated that salinomycin plays an important role in mediating the transport of cations, including K+ and Ca2+, through cell membranes of specific bacteria. In addition, pilot studies have suggested that salinomycin has an anti-tumor activity that can overcome the drug resistance or chemoresistance in a number of human cancer cell types, such as breast cancer cells. As a result, it has been considered as a potential anti-cancer agent for the treatment of various cancers both in preclinical trials and clinical trials. meanwhile, the haptens for salinomycin have been designed to provide a long-term anti-tumor immune response for cancer therapy.

Our Platform for Design and Synthesis of Salinomycin Haptens

The drug-like hapten design is a key part of generating different kinds of antibodies against small molecules. The specific chemical composition and target molecular properties of new haptens are capable of improving the efficacy of these antibodies in treating various medical problems. Many reports have shown that the design and synthesis of novel haptens have been used to develop novel monoclonal antibodies (mAb) targeting a variety of polyethers antibiotics, especially for salinomycin. The results have indicated that the mAbs generated from immunization with different salinomycin haptens have a higher affinity and specificity for preventing infections and treating human cancers.
